Cedar City Mental Health Services
Mental Health Counseling typically requires several sessions to resolve issues especially when experiencing significant trauma. The number of sessions may vary. The counselor will normally meet with a patient on a weekly basis, and then an evaluation will be done to determine if further weekly sessions are needed.
If you are considering Mental Health Counseling for yourself, please know that there is a time commitment involved in order to receive the greatest benefits.
In the first session, the counselor will do an intake assessment, which includes asking questions about the reasons for needing services. This includes a variety of topics. This helps provide a better understanding of what may be contributing to certain difficulties. The counselor will develop a treatment plan that includes short-term and long-term goals, and then assess the completion of goals as treatment progresses.
A therapy session is 53 minutes long, which gives the counselor time to write notes on the session and prepare for the next session. It also allows for occasional extra time in a session, if needed.
